Yes, it's true. How can this be? You may ask. Trust me, I'm thinking the same thing! And for those of you who are thinking it.... NO, this was definitely not planned. Not in our plans, at least. But, apparently, God had something different in mind.
Now, I don't know for sure how far along I am, so we don't have any exact due date yet, but it looks like they will be approximately 16 months apart. WOW. Can I handle that? I hope so.
My mind has been racing over the past week. First I was in shock and denial. I really didn't even want to tell people, because I just didn't want to talk about it. Then, I moved on to freaking out. Thinking of all the things we need: a new crib/nursery furniture (I'd originally planned to just use Allie's, since we were planning on the 3-4 years-in-between-kids plan); a double stroller (ugh); cleaned out closets for storage space for toys, etc., since we'll no longer have the "play room"; more hospital bills, etc. Then, I went on to stressing about recovering from a C-Sec and not even being able to pick up Allie. The question even crossed my mind, "With two kids that close together, what will I do with them while I do things like, hmm.. take a shower?!"
I think I'm finally at the stage of acceptance. Afterall, children truly are a blessing from the Lord. And, I really do know that even though right now, I just can't really picture my life with an infant and a 16 month old, there will be a day when I won't be able to picture it any other way!
So, there you have it. Surprise.
Oh, and if you know anyone who is wanting to get rid of a double stroller and/or crib/furniture set, let me know. I'm in the market for a deal!
Congratulations!!! I'm sure it is still shocking to think about, but at least you have a few more months to let it sink in! I am thankful for surprises, because Alan was one- born 13 months after his older brother :)
ReplyDeleteOh, Rachel. They'll be best friends!!! I'm not going to lie to you: it was tough for me having two that are a/b 14 1/2 months apart. I think it hit though when we moved from Memphis away from family and friends....before that, I kept on thinking: "This is not hard! I could have another one soon!" How the Lord humbled me when we moved.
ReplyDeleteGood news for you, though, is you will be around family and friends galore!!! You'll do great! The Lord still will humble you at times, but He's worth it = ).
Congratulations!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! I think I would be doing the same thing you are.. but it is God's plan.. and it will be fun!!!
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOODNESS! Rachel, I can't believe it. Congratulations. This is so crazy. You could possibly have two children at my wedding. Ha ha, I am so excited for you!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!
ReplyDeletecongratulations! How far along are you?
ReplyDeletewe just found out that we're having a baby too!
I'm only about 6 wks along.
It was a big surprise but we are so excited.
God's plans truly are so much better than ours!
Thanks, everyone!
ReplyDeleteLaurin ~ Knowing you've done it and have made it look relatively easy (or at least doable) it is encouraging! I am very glad we've got so many people around to help... I imagine we'll need it!
Jules ~ I know... that's so crazy! Looks like I won't be going to the TN/Florida game afterall, so you can feel free to switch the date if you want.. =)
Leah ~ That's so exciting! Congrats! I'm not sure exactly how far along I am, but I'm thinking it's probably about 6 weeks, too! I'll have an ultrasound next month to see for sure, though! I'm really happy for ya'll!
Rachel, that is wonderful news! I know it may seem overwhelming but in the big picture 16 months is not TOO terribly close together.
ReplyDeleteDo you remember our conversation around Macy's dining room table? Who knew YOU were the one pregnant!!!
Haha~ I know, Julie thinks it's very fitting since I wished it on her!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! Congrats!!! I know they will be best friends!
ReplyDeleteOh, Rachel! So exciting! We will be praying for you two as you make decisions and plan! I will start planning your meal too! :)
